1. wHAT IS AN UNCORKED ART PARTY?
An Uncorked Art Party is a "cocktails and canvas" (also often called "paint & sip", "paint night" or "corks & canvas") type event in which you buy a ticket, show up to a designated venue (typically a bar or restaurant) and are guided by a local artist in creating your own work of art while you sip and snack. There are typically 6-20 painters in each class and some painters come alone while others come with a friend or two (also a perfect date activity!) All of the supplies to create the painting along with approximately 2- 2.5 hours of instruction are included in your $35 ticket. Food and drinks are purchased directly from the venue during the event (if you choose to do so). Relaxing and having fun are just as important as your finished piece. The painting process is stress free as group step-by-step instructions along with one- on-one guidance are provided during the entire process. Have a great time and go home with a finished painting YOU created! Private home parties are also available.
2. Do I need to have previous painting or drawing experience?
No! You do not need to have any artistic skills or experience to have fun at an Uncorked Art Party and create your beautiful painting. All of the instructions and supplies are provided and things are broken down to help new painters develop skills quickly. If you need a helping hand Amber will be there to offer personal guidance and encouragement.
3.What makes Uncorked Art Parties different than other sip and paint parties?
While most sip and paint/cocktails and canvas style paint parties only include acrylic paint and canvas supplies we offer many "mixed-media" paint parties in which various mediums such as beads, seeds, salt, soap, fibres, fabrics, petals, ink and paper are incorporated on the canvas which creates visual interest, texture, and teaches you techniques you can have fun experimenting with at home. We have more experience than the average artist who only does the rare class, but less overhead than the larger companies translating into the sweet spot of expertise and pricing for you. Unlike many other sip and paint parties, $35 covers all costs.
4. What do I need to bring?
Just yourself! We ask that you arrive half an hour before the actual party starts is preferred so you can check in, find a space, and grab a drink and snack. You might also consider bringing an apron you don't mind getting paint on.
5. Are the food and drinks included in public parties?
No, typically the price includes the paint instructions and supplies (your canvas, brushes, paint, and use of our easels, brushes, and expertise) but not food or beverages, which are purchased by you directly from the venue. We hope that you take advantage of the 15 minutes prior to the class beginning and brief breaks during the class (usually when we are letting a layer dry- most paintings include at least one 10 min. break) to sample the delicious menu items the venue has to offer and purchase a drink (or two ;) to sip while you paint. You can also come early or stay late to enjoy a meal. Supporting the venue helps to keep our ticket prices down, but there is no pressure and it is your choice!
6. Can I bring a friend?
We would love for you to bring a friend but please ensure you and the friend are both registered prior to the event to save your seats. You can register both yourself and your friend at the same time by emailing email@example.com. Make sure to provide their email address if they would like to be added to the monthly mailing list.
7. DO I HAVE TO PAY IN ADVANCE? What if I already bought a ticket but now I can't go?
To help keep us focused on submitted beforehand either via credit card, paypal, cheque, or email money transfer. but we understand life happens. If you have to cancel please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org prior to the event you are registered for and a credit for a future party or refund will be offered.
8. What should I wear?
Please wear something you don't mind getting a bit of paint on and consider bringing an old apron. We use water-based acrylics and other mediums which don't always come out of fabric. We are not responsible for any damage to clothing.
9. What kind of supplies will we be using?
In addition to professional quality 12 x 16 gallery wrap canvases stretched on wood frames (staples on back so they don't need to be framed) we use a variety of brushes and other tools, paint mediums such as acrylic and watercolor, and other textured mediums such as beads, seeds, petals, paper, ink, pencils, salt, soap, and even alcohol (hey it isn't just for sipping!)
10. Who is the instructor?
Amber Wardell, resident of Norfolk County and mixed-media artist instructs paint parties unless otherwise stated or in the case of Amber's unexpected unavailability. Read Amber's Artist's Statement, see examples of her work and a list of her exhibits and showings here.
11. How much do the public classes cost and how do I buy tickets?
Semi - private and public parties cost $35 per person unless otherwise stated. $35 covers all costs related to paint party portion of the evening (drinks and food are extra as they are purchased directly from the venue). Tickets can be purchased by emailing email@example.com or online via credit card. If you would like to host your own paint class but have less than 6 friends interested don't fret! You can book a private class for 2-5 painters for $50 a person.
12. why aren't there levels of difficulty for your paintings?
All of the paintings taught during Uncorked Art Parties are completely accessible to beginners. Those with previous painting experience may find they finish more quickly (hey, more time for sipping, snacking, or relaxing) or have time to add more detail or their own special touches.
13. What do I go home with?
A finished, unique, painting on a 12 x 16 canvas, ready to hang. Hopefully you also go home with less stress :)

15. Will a public party ever be cancelled?
On rare occasions an event must be cancelled due to extremely poor driving conditions, instructor illness, or low registration numbers (a class must have at least 6 participants). In these circumstances all registered painters will offered a credit for a future class or a full refund.
16. WHAT TYPE OF VENUE will work FOR A PRIVATE PARTY?
Most homes or workplaces can be set up to accommodate at least 10 painters and in some cases up to 25. If you have a detached workshop or large open space that would be ideal. Amber is the resident artist at the The Blue Elephant in Simcoe Ontario and can offer this space for private parties at no additional cost for groups of 6 or more.
17. can you save me and my friends seats?
Unfortunately to be fair to everyone we can not offer reserved seating for groups. However if you attend 15-30 minutes early you are very likely to get seats together for your group.
18. do i need to bring confirmation of my ticket purchase to the event?
You will be asked to sign in at the event but do not need to bring a copy of your ticket. If you are using a gift certificate or coupon, please bring it with you and submit it to the instructor.
